My work focuses on algorithms for efficient planning under uncertainty and how to transfer them to agents such as robots, that must make decisions quickly with only partial information about their domains. Partially Observable Markov Decision Processes (POMDPs) correctly model robotic task planning under uncertainty and the effect of information gathering actions, but they become quickly intractable even in simple tasks. My research aims to exploit the structure of task-planning problems in order to improve perfomance by designing goal-oriented criteria for action selection and state abstraction, allowing agents to generate their own simplification criteria internally and autonomously.
